Power Soccer Introduces Clans Allowing Users to Team Up, Win Cup Trophies
Linkoping, Sweden – November 10, 2008 – It started with users meeting up in Power Soccer, a web-based console-quality multi-player soccer game developed by Power Challenge. They would chat during a match or in the forums, forging alliances and challenging other groups of players to see who the top players were. The more enterprising of these informal groups, called clans, set up their own web pages, creating clan logos, listing their members, and posting their latest victories over other groups.
“It was really a phenomenon that took off on its own,” said Power Challenge CEO, Johan Christenson. “All of these users were spending so much effort around the game, creating their own sites and trying to arrange tournaments that we just couldn’t ignore it – we had to integrate clans into our game.”
With the latest enhancements to Power Soccer, Clans are now integrated into the game. Users can create clans, solicit and accept applications for membership into the clan, and display trophies for winning Clan Cups in the Clan Trophy Room. Each clan can customize their clan banner, track their performance relative to other clans, as well as get reporting about which members are helping improve the clan’s performance.
In addition to Clan Cups, this release introduced Fan Cups, allowing users to play and earn trophies for their favorite real world teams. Power Soccer members can show their support by joining the Fan Zone page for their favorite National and Premier League teams, then they can play in Cups against rival fans to see who are the best fans on Power Soccer. Fan and Clan Cups are free for Power Soccer Club Members and cost 2 Power Tokens for non-members.
“This new cup capability, where users can play with other members against rival clans or fans of real-world clubs, really taps the competitive nature of the community,” says Christenson. “It also makes the game live beyond the PC, tapping the hype around real-world matchups, and bringing the players back into the game to show off their fandom. You might not be able to play for the Swedish national team in real-life, but you can show how fanatical a fan you are by helping the Swedish national team defeat another team in a Fan Cup on Power Soccer.“
